Argan Oil - Why we use this super ingredient !! March 27 2014, 0 Comments

ARGAN OIL BEAUTY BENEFITS

EVERYONE CAN BENEFIT FROM USING ARGAN OIL We're about ready to declare argan oil as the best beauty ingredient, period. We've been using argan oil for some time and have yet to be let down. Here are some easy ways to include argan oil in your beauty regimen.

HAIR Argan oil is a great product to calm frizzy ends, add moisture to dry hair as well as add a little shine. Apply to your hair while it is still damp for an all over treatment or apply just to your dry ends after your hair is dry.

SCALP If you're dealing with dry scalp, apply some argan oil to a cotton ball and dab your scalp with the oil. If you do this before bed, you'll give the oil plenty of time to moisturize your scalp before you wash your hair in the morning.

FACE It might seem scary to apply a pure oil to your face, especially if you have finicky skin, but we have been doing just that and our skin is completely turning around. It's smooth, clear and radiant.

BODY You can use argan oil for a full body moisturizer, applying just as you would a body lotion or cream. Apply the oil right after you get out of your shower for best moisturizing results.

HANDS Argan oil is a great oil to use on your hands, especially on your cuticles and on your nails if they are prone to cracking and peeling.

.
Because of argan oil's increasing popularity, many skin care companies are jumping on the argan oil bandwagon. It is definitely a mid-range beauty product, but the concentration and small amount needed help with the cost. Plus, with the skin benefits we've seen, we're almost at the point of ditching everything but the sunscreen and sticking with argan oil head-to-toe.

We recommend finding a product line that has 100% pure Moroccan Argan Oil for best benefits.

TRY Our Rosehip + Argan Oil Hydra-Boost Face Oil is coming soon. Release date is set for late April 2014.

Email your interest to info@amboniorganics.com for more information on how our NEW & IMPROVED formula can change your skin forever.

EAT YOUR WAY TO A FASTER METABOLISM March 26 2014, 0 Comments

  • EAT YOUR VITAMINS - B group vitamins are the greatest..helps energy production from mitochondria (power drivers of our cells)
  • DRINK GREEN TEA - Green Tea contains caffeine and the anti-oxidant EGCG which which both help the increase the number of calories you burn in a 24hr period.
  • SPICES - According to the International Journal of Obesity, Capsicain, a comound found in chili peppers can rev up the metabolism by 5%.
  • PROTEIN BEFORE CARBS - It takes more energy to digest protein than carbohydrates or fat. If you eat 100 calories' worth of protein, you burn up to 35 while digesting, absorbing and eliminating them. With 100 calories' worth of carbs, you burn up to 15 that way.

  • DON'T SKIP BREKKY - If you skip breakfast, your body goes into starvation mode. The reason? Having an empty stomach sends a message to your cells to conserve energy in case more food doesn't arrive. To kick-start your metabolism first thing and for the day ahead, it's best to eat within two hours of waking up.

Make these 5 tweaks to your diet and watch your waistline slowly change. A healthy metabolism is a must - make sure you add some exercise in the mix too, diet alone is a great start but don't underestimate a brisk walk 3 times a week to really get things going...

SNACK SUGGESTION

Nut Butter Boat: Any vehicle for nut butter (almond, peanut, or cashew, perhaps?) is perfection in our book. Try loading a few celery sticks with 1 tablespoon of any nut butter topped with a few whole almonds or raisins (oh yeah, we went there). If you’re not a fan of celery, try scooping out the middle of an apple and fill it with a nut buttery surprise!

What are you waiting for?? green tea time OR do you prefer a Nut Butter Boat!!

3 QUICK TIPS TO NOURISH YOUR SKIN March 17 2014, 0 Comments

ITS AS SIMPLE AS 1, 2, 3...

  1. WATER is essential to all body functions and does give our skin a healthy glow. It helps with signs of ageing and will definitely improve the texture of the skin. We lose so much water throughout the day especially when its hot, so remember to drink up.
  2. SUGAR is pretty much a nasty one.. sugar is acidic and causes inflammation in the body. It attributes to breakouts and should be avoided!! opt for Stevia which is a natural sugar substitute and far less acidic.
  3. CLEANSE your skin at night. Clear away the dirt and makeup from the day. Helps to re-balance the skin and address any hydration/oil problems. Cleansing at night prepares the skin for your beauty elixirs like night creams, serums and face oils. These are the little beauties that keep you looking younger and your skin fresh and glowing.

Well there you have it.. my top 3 tips!

GREEN SMOOTHIE - FACTS and how to blend well February 26 2014, 0 Comments

Green is the new black and this also applies to the GREEN smoothie craze that seems to be maintaining followers and looks to have staying power. There’s a very good reason for that: Green Smoothies or Juices are a fast, convenient and delicious way to fill your body full of nutrients. The injection of vital vitamins and minerals into your body helps make you and your skin glow.

Most of us don’t eat enough green leafy vegetables as part of our daily diet, so blending them up into a yummy drink is definitely the way to go. Cravings for sugar slowly disappear as juices and smoothies become part of your daily food hit. Be careful not all smoothies are created equal so its best to blend your own or opt for a fresh pressed juice when out and about.

But here’s the thing: if you want to really see a difference in your skin, you need to drink them just about every day, especially if you suffer from acne and your skin is crying out for nutrients. Consistency is the key.

Its really worth investing in a 1000-watt+ blender or a high powered blender like the Vitamix, then you’ll have no troubles blending all those fresh, green leaves into a smoothie that’s, well, really smooth!

NOTE: Try not to blend your smoothie for longer than a minute, as the longer you blend, the more oxidation will occur, resulting in a loss of nutrients.

SUPERFOOD CLEAN SMOOTHIE RECIPE

No fail green smoothie recipe

Once you find a combo that you like it will be easy to slightly tweak and create new and tasty recipes. Put 1 cup of greens and 2 cups of fruit (can be either fresh or frozen), plus a little coconut water into a blender and blend for 30 seconds to 1 minute. (You can gradually increase the greens and decrease the fruit as you get used to the taste).

The fruit is added for taste because greens alone can be quite an unsavory blend, but the higher the ration of greens to fruit, the better. Fruits that go well in green smoothies are berries for their anti-oxidant content, as well as  bananas, pineapple and apple. You can use just about any green leafy veg, including spinach, kale, swiss chard, lettuce and bok choy.

Why your skin will love the Green!

Just a few points to note of why your skin will love the green...

  1. CHLOROPHYLL - purifies the blood and acts as a detoxifier thus bringing radiance to dull and tired skin.
  2. VITAMIN A - an essential component for building connective tissue. Vitamin A deficiencies can result in dry and rough skin and thus exasperate ageing.
  3. VITAMIN C - this anti-oxidant is a necessary component for the repair and growth of all body tissue, it assist the making of collagen which is important in youthful looking skin.
  4. SULFUR - found in green veggies, sulfur detoxifies the body, assists to reduce inflammation, improves skin elasticity and is a must for the biosynthesis of collagen.
  5. VITAMIN K - a big factor in helping to improve the appearance of acne scars, spider veins and other common skin imperfections

Green up and enjoy your blending!

5 FOODS TO AVOID - if you want great skin February 12 2014, 0 Comments

Diet plays a big part in the condition of our skin. Like it or not, your skin often reflects what you put in your mouth.

Plenty of studies have been carried out across the globe that focuses on how our diet can affect our skin. Here we look at the top five foods you should avoid or limit in your diet if you want to maintain a healthy, glowing complexion.
  • 1
Pastas, breads and other starchy foods
Typically, carbohydrates are said to hamper weight-loss, and it seems there is another reason we should be avoiding these starchy foods. There has been a link made between acne and foods with a high glycaemic content (like pasta and white breads) because they cause a rapid spike in blood sugar. Furthermore, an Australian study found that eating a low-GI diet reduced pimples in young men.
  • 2
    Sugar
No surprises here. It’s a well-known fact that sugar is not your complexion's friend. High blood sugar can weaken the skin by affecting tissue like collagen and leave you more vulnerable to lines and wrinkles. Limiting your sugar intake will allow you to step out with confidence, rather than with a paper bag over your speckled face!
  • 3
    Alcohol
Pack your moisturiser if you’re planning a big night of drinking. The irony of alcohol consumption is that the more you drink, the thirstier you become. This dehydration factor also applies to your skin. Drinking alcohol dries your skin out and in turn makes lines and wrinkles more pronounced – who wants that?
  • 4
    Salt
On the other end of the dehydration scale, too much salt can cause our bodies to retain water, which can cause our skin to become red and puffy, particularly around areas of our face where the skin is quite thin such as our eyes. The older you get, the more salt will affect your complexion so keep this in mind when seasoning your next steak.
  • 5
    Shellfish
Lovers of shellfish beware. The high iodine content of most seafood has a strong correlation to acne. You don’t need to worry about this if you only occasionally indulge in seafood but if you are acne-prone, consume these foods a couple of times a month rather than a couple of times a week. Remember: everything in moderation!
It’s not all bad news when it comes to foods and maintaining healthy skin. There are some foods that are both delicious and beneficial for our faces. Eat things like dark chocolate, yoghurt, walnuts and green tea to help prevent and reduce wrinkles, and keep your skin glowing!

IS DRINKING TEA GOOD FOR ME? November 22 2013, 1 Comment

Who doesn't love a cup of tea?

I'm a sucker for a great cup of tea. Especially ones where you add milk, I.e: black, white, earl grey and the like. I'm not really talking about everyday supermarket tea, I'm fond of the luxury teas like T2 or Tea Tonic.

The most common teas:

BLACK - Black tea is the oxidized leaf of the tea bush. It is the same plant as green and oolong tea, but is left to oxidize longer than either of these and so has a different, generally stronger flavor. Black tea is often mixed with other ingredients such as bergamot (orange) oil to create Earl Grey tea, or cinnamon and other spices to create chai tea. In many cultures, black tea is taken with milk, lemon and/or sugar or sweetener as well.

GREEN - Green tea contains huge amount of antioxidants which are great for our insides and are contributors to a glowing complexion. It is well known for it's health benefits and is said to improve cardiovascular health, reduces the risk of cancer and helps with weight lossGreen tea is a huge component in Asian cultures. I prefer to drink a combination of Greentea and Mint or Greentea and Rose which makes it taste better in my opinion. I love all the Heath benefits of Greentea but I'm not fussed on the taste. It contains very little caffeine.

CHAMOMILE - (not technically a tea - often referred to as an infusion) contains calming properties for both the nervous and digestive systems. If taken before bedtime it can help with overall relaxation and sleep. It contains no caffeine. I personally love Twinnings Chamomile and Spearmint (this one is a supermarket one) but its quality and tastes good.

Did you know that just one cup of green tea has more vitamins and antioxidants than eight apples? Enjoyed first thing in the morning Green Tea helps boost the metabolism, increases energy levels and helps to aid weight loss.

Some other teas:

Oolong, Rooibos, White, Peppermint

SOME INTERESTING POINTS

Tea can boost exercise endurance. Scientists have found that the catechins (antioxidants) in green tea extract increase the body’s ability to burn fat as fuel, which accounts for improved muscle endurance.

  • The antioxidants in tea might help protect against a broad array of cancers, including breast, colon, colorectal, skin, lung, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, pancreas, liver, ovarian, prostate and oral cancers.
  • Tea helps fight free radicals, which can damage DNA in the body.
  • Tea is hydrating to the body (even despite the caffeine!).
  • Green tea has been found to improve bone mineral density and strength.

WHY EXFOLIATE.. Read this if you wear foundation November 22 2013, 0 Comments

    SKIN STRUCTURE

There are 3 layers to the skin; the deepest being the Subcutis, next the Dermis and the top layer is known as the Epidermis.. the top layer regenerates and replaces itself every 28 days.

The other 2 layers store nutrients and add volume to the skin.

Due to the top layer renewing itself, there can be an inconsistency with the smoothness of the skins surface which is usually more noticeable when you apply foundation.

     HOW OFTEN

Exfoliating should be at least once a week with most industry professionals recommending twice. Try and get into a routine and stick to times that you can consistently manage. Consistency is what gets results.

     BENEFITS

In a nut shell, Exfoliating helps clear off any old cells making way for fresh new skin, which is usually more radiant and helps create a smoother appearance. this helps with a glowing complexion and not to mention a better finish when applying foundation. Oh and it helps keep blackheads at bay.

    RECOMMENDATION

Look for products with spherical exfoliating particles such as Jojoba beads, Bamboo or Tea Tree Powder as they aren't too harsh on the facial skin.

Avoid things like walnut shells and cocoa beans for the face, they tend to create microscopic scratching and do more damage than good... save the walnuts and cocoa for eating and use them in your body products.

Try an alternative like this Exfoliating Muslin Cloth made from Organic Cotton. This cloth is made in Australia from Organic Cotton and is perfect for all skin types, especially those who are sensitive to products and still want to exfoliate.

Try a skincare gadget. Somerville likes the Clarisonic to "gently exfoliate and keep skin clean." The Client: Katherine Heigl Read more: Celebrity Skin Secrets - Facial Skin Tips from Celebrities - Harper's BAZAAR

Catherine Heigl prefers to exfoliate with a gadget.

No excuse not to exfoliate !!Get onto it ASAP and keep it up - your skin will surely thank you for it.

ALOE VERA GOODNESS - can it help your skin? November 16 2013, 0 Comments

ALOE VERA GOODNESS!! grow a plant and have fresh aloe vera every day

A succulent plant with rejuvenating and soothing properties, aloe vera holds many benefits for the skin and health. It has been used in alternative medicines and cosmetics for centuries due to its benefits. It is used itvarious forms – as a gel, oil, juice, the whole plant and in creams, soaps and tablets.

People who have sensitive skin can also use aloe vera as it is very soothing and does not cause any irritation. Its anti-inflammatory properties help in treating blemishes, acne and other skin problems. A minor cut or wound, a burn or a rash can be effectively treated with aloe vera. The gel is extracted from the leaves of the plant and when applied to the skin, softens dead skin cells leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth upon regular use. It also delays visible signs of ageing like fine lines and appearance of wrinkles.

    WINTER OR SUMMER?

While a lot of aloe products are available in the market these days, one can even plant it at home and reap in its benefits from its juice and gel. But if planting it at home isn’t possible, get an aloe vera based gel and use it for your skin. Buy moisturisers, lotions and creams which have aloe content in them. Aloe vera or aloe-based products come in handy in summers as well as winters. Its cooling properties provide instant relief from sunburns in the summer by hydrating the skin and in winters, it helps get rid of dryness by adding moisture to the skin.

    SKIN TYPES ~

If you have normal skin - Take one tbsp of aloe vera gel and mix it with one tbsp of gram flour (besan), one tsp of orange peel powder and some curd. Apply this pack on your face and neck, avoiding the area around the eyes. Wash it with water after 30 minutes and pat dry the area with a towel. This is a good pack to keep your skin looking smooth and supple.

If you have oily skin - Oily skin is usually prone to acne and regularly applying this face pack can do wonders for your skin. Boil aloevera leaf with water and then grind it into a paste. Now add a few drops of honey to this paste and apply it on your face. Rinse it off with cold water after 15 minutes. Follow this treatment once every week to get clear skin.

If you have sensitive skin - Take aloe vera gel and add cucumber juice and curd to it. Mix it well to form a paste and add 3 drops of rose water or any essential oil to it. Keep it for 15 minutes on your face and neck and then wash it with water. This pack is very mild and does not cause any irritation but clears the skin of dirt and impurities.

If you have dry skin - Mix aloe vera gel with olive oil and add some shea butter to it (you can add shea butter creams also). Mix it well till it forms a thick paste and then apply it on your face and neck. Keep the pack for at least 20 minutes and wash your face with cold water to lock the moisture in your skin.

If you want to get rid of sun tanning, apply aloe vera gel mixed with lemon juice on the affected area for 10 minutes. Alternatively, if you want to get rid of pigmentation, mix rose water instead of lemon juice and wash off with cold water. Aloe vera is a natural remedy for various skin problems so make good use of its beauty benefits.

5 FOODS TO AVOID - if you want great skin August 30 2013, 0 Comments

I stumbled across this little beauty while on my travels at the Sydney International Spa & Beauty Expo last week. This gem is not only great for your complexion, it actually tastes good too!!  Australian sourced ingredients and made wholly in Australia are some other things i loved about this brand.

4 BEAUTY SECRETS FROM YOUR KITCHEN... August 22 2013, 1 Comment

    1. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
In order for your hair to style better and look healthier, you should strip it of build-up about every month. The easiest and most natural way to do this is in the shower with apple cider vinegar! Shampoo your hair, then mix ½ cup of apple cider vinegar with ½ cup of water. Pour this mixture over your hair, then rinse and condition as usual.

    2. COCONUT OIL
Don’t spend money on an eye makeup remover! Instead, use coconut oil! It’s natural and won’t irritate even the most sensitive eyes. It’s also safe for contact lens wearers! Warm up a little in the palm of your hand and rub it onto your eyes with a cotton ball to remove every trace of makeup.

    3.AVOCADO
Avocado is a lifesaver for anyone who suffers from dry skin. Because it’s rich in fats and oils, it has strong moisturizing properties! Mash up a fresh avocado and apply it to your skin for 5 minutes. Here are a few other ideas: Strawberries are great for acne-prone skin, and bananas are perfect for sallow skin!

    4. LEMONS
Lemons are a very acidy fruit, so they work well to dry up oily skin or fight acne. You can make a toner out of the juice of one lemon, ½ a cup of water, and ½ a cup of witch hazel. Store it in the fridge for a refreshing pick-me-up halfway through the day. Just apply to your face with a cotton ball and allow to air dry!

Always patch test any products natural or otherwise... even though the above ingredients are natural, if you are prone to allergy you may react with irritation. Discontinue use if this occurs.

DOES PRIMER CLOG MY PORES? July 13 2013, 0 Comments

    WHAT IS PRIMER?
Primers are pretty much silicone-based fluids, gels or liquids that sit on top of the skin and create a smooth, even surface.  They help to stop makeup disappearing into the skin over the course of the day. There are plenty of skin care products available that have the same basic cosmetic chemistry as a primer, but they're sold as serums or moisturisers.  Typically primers are oil-free and can comfortably be called non-comedogenic (pore clogging).

Silicones can turn real ugly if you don't cleanse your skin twice a day religiously.  They are semi-occlusive and create a weightless film on the skin.  They kind of form a barrier that won't suffocate your skin but they still create a blockage of the normal function of your skin.

If you don't apply Primers to clean skin, you can drive any grime or bacteria deeper into your pores.  There are plenty of people who skip their morning cleanse, which is a no no.  You have to remove the products you applied the night before and dead skin cells--not just dirt.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You also need to be sure you're removing them properly at night, which isn't an easy task for anyone using a cleanser or makeup remover that isn't designed to break down silicones.  Silicones sit on the skin and feel weightless, you need to use a cleansing oil, or oil-containing makeup remover followed by cleanser that contains cocoamidopropyl betaine (gentle foaming cleanser). Sulfates just don't break down silicones, and most toners don't either.

    IN A NUTSHELL:
    • Use Primers sparingly
    • Use them on clean skin
    • Remove them thoroughly
    • Keep a look out for similar products that act the same as a primer but without the sillicones, like Amboni Organics 'Recovery Facial Serum'

    Put your best face forward

    7 SUPER BEAUTY FOODS June 29 2013, 0 Comments

Did you know they can completely change the look of their appearance through eating certain beauty foods and beverages? Most of know that fruits and veggies are great for our skin, but what you may not know is certain unconventional foods are also great beauty remedies. I’m always on a mission to keep my skin in tip top shape. For many years, I've been a firm believer that our skin reflects how healthy we are on the inside. By feeding our body what it needs, we can naturally give ourselves beautiful skin with less work topically. Read on for my 7 beautifying foods to add to your daily menu so you can literally put your best face forward.

    1. COFFEE

There is proof from numerous studies that 1-2 cups of coffee a day can be a powerful beauty food. How, you ask? Coffee is actually extremely high in antioxidants, the coffee bean is also very heat stable, so when you brew your cup of heart starter in the morning, all of the antioxidants stay intact, unlike many delicate antioxidants found in other plants and veggies. Coffee has also been linked to lower insulin to reduce type 2 diabetes. When your insulin is stable, so is your blood sugar, which prevents hormonal swings that can lead to breakouts. This makes coffee a double dose of goodness. Antioxidants in coffee protect the skin from sun damage and aging. These same antioxidants also prevent the breakdown of collagen in the skin. Just be sure to keep your coffee hit to a limit at 1-2 cups a day. Always drink 2 glasses of water for every cup of coffee you drink – you need to replenish the dehydration that happens in the body when you drink coffee.

    2. CACAO
Yes, that’s right; not only can you have your coffee, but you can also keep your chocolate fix too. Cacao is a super beauty food. I’m not talking about the highly processed, low-grade hot chocolates that contain nothing but empty calories, I’m speaking of pure, raw cacao as it contains nutrition while giving you that satisfied feeling. The cacao bean is rich in magnesium, an energy mineral and vital electrolyte. This super-food is also a good source of sulphur which is associated with strong nails, shiny hair and a healthy liver and pancreas. Cacao has also been found to help regulate blood pressure and reduce cholesterol while building the immune system. It is a rich source of antioxidants, fibre and heart- healthy polyphenols (a type of compound found in green tea and other plant foods). Polyphenols are not only good for your heart, arteries and blood flow, but also wonderful for giving you great skin.

    3. LEMONS
Lemons are my favourite beauty food. Lemons are a unique fruit that contain no fruit sugar, but high amounts of Vitamin C, and great detoxifying properties. Lemons detox the liver, kidneys and colon. When your insides are clean, so is your skin. Lemons are great for adding zing to salads, dressings, plain water and even smoothies. They brighten any dish they are added to. Lemons are a powerhouse of nutrition, so keep a few in your fruit bowl and you’ll see the results in no time. I especially love them added to herbal tea as well.

    4. GREEN TEA
Green tea isn’t only great for your heart and overall diet, but it is a true beauty food as well. Green tea is rich in antioxidants and one of the most alkaline foods on the planet, this means it reduces acidity and inflammation in the body, which in turn gives you great skin. Green tea is a power house of antioxidants, heart health compounds and one of the best beverages to reduce anxiety. I love Green Tea and Rose by Teas.com.au The rose and jasmine help soften the strong green taste which often puts people off drinking it. http://www.teas.com.au/Green_Tea-China__Taiwan-Gunpowder.aspx?pi=872

    5. GARLIC
Did you know this potent food actually makes you pretty? While it may not give you the best breath, it makes your skin glow, and keeps it from aging. Garlic is not only rich in antioxidants, but also rich in the mineral selenium. Selenium is found in foods such as Brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, garlic and some animal sources of protein. Selenium is essential for keeping your skin in good condition, it keeps nails and hair healthy, and it's also great for your heart. Garlic’s antioxidant and selenium content, along with trace B vitamins, make it a must have for your beauty routine.

    6. PUMPKIN SEEDS
Pumpkin keeps your skin glowing from tons of Vitamin A in the form of beta carotene, the seeds from pumpkin, which are also known as Pepitas, also keep you pretty but for different reasons. Pumpkin seeds are the only alkaline forming seed there is, meaning they actually promote your body to fight inflammation. They are also rich in zinc and protein which are crucial for good skin. First, zinc fights acne and dry skin and secondly, protein aids in collagen production of the skin. Plant proteins are much healthier for the skin than animal proteins are, since other compounds in animal proteins actually break down collagen in the skin. Pumpkin seeds are easy toad to your diet, sprinkle them into cereals, yogurts, salads or even smoothies. I like to add them to my homemade muesli bars.

     7. FLAX OIL
If you want great skin, get some flax oil into your diet ASAP. I know, it’s a source of fat, but not all fat is bad. This fat in particular is acne’s worst nightmare, along with wrinkles’ arch enemy. Flax oil is rich in Omega 3s and also detoxifying to the liver. It works in your body in a variety of ways to keep your skin soft, supple, glowing and best of all, clear. I like to use 1 tbsp. flax oil with lemon juice as a homemade salad dressing. It has a delicious nutty taste alone, and when paired with lemon, flax oil has a beautiful, zingy, sweet nutty flavour. Try it on your next salad to enhance your beauty routine.

While there are many well-known beauty foods out there, these are some of my favourite, they are readily available and very effective ones. Do you eat any of these beauty foods? Tell me about it!

WHY EXFOLIATE.. Read this if you wear foundation June 09 2013, 1 Comment

Kate Somerville is a Facialist to the stars, she recommends:

Try a skincare gadget. Somerville likes the Clarisonic to "gently exfoliate and keep skin clean." The Client: Katherine Heigl Read more: Celebrity Skin Secrets - Facial Skin Tips from Celebrities - Harper's BAZAAR
Catherine Heigl prefers to exfoliate with a gadget

No excuse not to exfoliate !!
Get onto it ASAP and keep it up - your skin will surely thank you for it.

IMPROVE YOUR POSTURE in 5 days May 27 2013, 0 Comments

5 Days to a better posture starts here...

    1. Be aware of your posture when walking and standing. Try and 'Feel' tall while dropping your shoulders and keeping your chest open and body long.

    2. Use a Physio ball (fit ball) and start to sit on for 5-10 minutes daily. Incorporate it while watching TV or at the computer.

    3. Postural exercises on the Physio ball such as ball rotations are excellent. With a straight back, kneel in front of the ball and place hands on the ball. Turn the abs on (engage them) which creates a stable centre of gravity at the core of the body; gently roll the ball forward. Repeat 10 times.

    4. Build muscle development with simple anti-gravity exercises such as lunges, squats and calf raises. These will all enhance your dynamic posture.

    5. Contract the core muscles regularly throughout the day. Practice strong contractions of the pelvic floor, abs and lower back. This helps to give better control of your spine which forms the foundation for great posture.

Article inspired by Physiotherapist J. Smith

So stand tall and proud ~ and get busy with all those strength building activities.. bike riding, hiking, rock climbing. Make it fun, it doesn't have to take place in a gym or at home.

DRY WINTER SKIN? fix it with these 3 tips May 23 2013, 1 Comment

    3 Winter Skin Care Tips

The weather outside may be unsightly, but your skin doesn't have to be. How to banish dry skin and give your winter skin care regimen a boost.

    DRY FACIAL SKIN:
If your facial skin is uncomfortably dry, avoid using harsh peels, clay masks, and alcohol-based toners, all of which can strip vital oil from your skin. Instead, find a cleansing milk or mild foaming cleanser, a toner with no alcohol, and masks that are "deeply hydrating," rather than clay-based, as clay tends to draw moisture out of the face.
TIP: Combat dryness with Amboni Organics Moisturising Mask $34.95  ON SALE for $20 Click here

BAN SUPER HOT BATHS and SHOWERS:
Sure, soaking in a burning-hot bath feels great after frolicking out in the cold. But the intense heat of a hot shower or bath actually breaks down the lipid barriers in the skin, which can lead to a loss of moisture. Try a slightly cooler temperature and stay in the water a shorter amount of time.
TIP: A lukewarm bath with oatmeal or baking soda, can help relieve skin that is so dry it has become itchy

    GET OUT YOUR HUMIDIFIER:
Central heating systems blast hot dry air throughout our homes and offices. Humidifiers get more moisture in the air, which helps prevent your skin from drying out. Place several small humidifiers throughout your home; they help disperse the moisture more evenly.

Get started ASAP, don't wait till signs of dryness has surfaced...
Oh and get those 2 litres of water too!!

7 REASONS TO DRINK LEMON JUICE + WATER DAILY April 29 2013, 1 Comment

A glass of water with half a lemon revitalises the body and mind..

    1. IMMUNE SYSTEM: The juice of half a lemon in a glass of water is rich in vitamin c, which helps boost the immune system. Easiest way to help the body fight cold and flu.

    2. AIDS DIGESTION: lemon juice diluted in water has a positive effect on the gastrointestinal tract. It has a similar atomic structure to the stomachs digestive juices which in turn helps to cleanse. It can also help to relieve symptoms of indigestion, heartburn and bloating.

    3. REPAIRS SKIN: Lemons are the natural cure to skin ageing. The antioxidant properties of lemons help combat free radical damage, which is responsible for the symptoms of ageing. The large Amount of vitamin c in lemons assist collagen renewal and helps hold connective tissue tight.

    4. REDUCES APPETITE: lemons contain a soluble fibre called pectin which is commonly found in citrus fruits. The pectin in lemons helps create a feeling of fullness which suppresses hunger cravings. You're less likely to snack on foods and make poor choices.

    5. BALANCES PH LEVELS: the body requires a balanced pH to function optimally. Too much acidity and the body can become inflamed. Lemons are one of the most alkalising foods for the body. Due to our diets, our body is generally in a state of acidity (most of us anyway) so 1/2 a lemon squeezed into a glass of water first thing in the morning is the ideal start to the day.

    6. FRESHENS THE BREATH: one of the properties of lemons is they are antiseptic. Lemon juice helps to kill bacteria and act as a disinfectant - great for the mouth and breath.

    7. LIVER DETOX: lemon juice water is the perfect liver detox. By stimulating the liver it encourages the production of bile which acts to purify, it also increases the acids required for digestion. It is a general tonic for the liver and helps balance and regulate it's a activity.

TIP: DO AS I DO and start your day with 1/2 lemon squeezed into a glass of warm water
Get some lemons in your fruit bowl asap..
